The Learn–Connect–Build (LCB) Model, developed within the scope of the TEDU Sustainability Learning Framework, is a program design approach that demonstrates how sustainability can be integrated into university courses at different levels.
The model brings together three types of courses: Learn courses, in which sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the direct focus of learning; Connect courses, which establish explicit links with specific SDGs; and Build courses, which help students develop Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) competencies such as systems thinking, critical thinking, collaboration, self-awareness, and integrated problem-solving.
The long-term goal of the model is to support courses offered at TEDU in establishing stronger and more natural connections with sustainability while preserving their disciplinary structures. To this end, course profiles, learning outcomes, and syllabi are reviewed. Courses redesigned with a sustainability focus under the British Council-supported E4SRF project are also incorporated into the model.
In this way, sustainability is not limited to a select number of courses but is integrated across different disciplines, academic programs, and learning experiences.
